Summary (2) Riches Await As Earth's Icy North Melts

Summary:

The international race has accelerated by the impact of global warming on Earth’s frozen north. The latest report by the U.S says the ice is receding because of greenhouse gases. The ASA Company wants to benefit from oil fields. Some companies focus on searching for oil in the north. Russia is developing the field and Norway is hoping to use their technology for it. Opening the North Pole will make navigation easier and the sailing time would reduce. Although Canada and Denmark sent war ships to the island, the peace was kept with no shooting. Russia sent the first ship to arrive at the North Pole without an icebreaker’s help. The American transportation company OmniTrax Inc moved more than 500,000 tons of grain through the Churchill port. A previous report was saying the ice melting would take 100 years, but now reports say it will take 10-15 years, so U.S, Canada, Russia, Denmark and Norway are claiming part of the Arctic. Most ships carry organisms while they are passing the North Pole. The fish move to cold water so they travel to different countries, so Russia contests with Norway in the Svalbard Islands which are rich with fish.

Main idea:

Countries are fighting for the Arctic to benefit from oil and fish and they tried to arrive at the North Pole.

Comments:

This race can make profits and also make problems for global warming and old reports were wrong about melting ice and the new reports are correct.

An Inconvenient Truth

In “An Inconvenient Truth” Al Gore describes how the earth is beautiful and he shows us some pictures of the environment. He said all the people know about the problem, but no one cares about this problem.

He talks about the Global Warming and how the climate is changing when the temperature increases. He explains how the Global Warming happens. After that, he explains a chart about CO2 levels. Also we are shown many pictures of some areas affected by Global Warming. Beside, all of these disasters happened last year’s like storms, because of Global Warming. As well, he gives us a good example about his sister when she died because of cancer.
Finally, he talked about the earth in our only home and we must care about all things happening in this planet, and he explained many possible solutions.

I think this movie is very interesting not for all student maybe because it too long but the lecture is very useful and the good thing is the pictures, the graphics and charts. However, we should care about it and aware people about this disaster.

Task 2 Introduction of Global Warming.

Global warming is a phenomenon of high temperature in the environment. It happens from the high rate of harmful gases. The harmful gases like CO2, chlorofluorocarbons and methane. Some of these gases came from the factories, machines and CO2 came from the humans. It is a dangerous phenomenon. The ice is melting, the trees can’t grow and the animals will die. The scientists are now trying to find a solution for this problem. We should take care about this problem and be aware. A warmer Earth may lead to changes in rainfall patterns, a rise in sea level, and a wide range of impacts on plants, wildlife, and humans. When scientists talk about the issue of climate change, their concern is about global warming caused by human activities. It is possible to avoid the global warming. I think we should grow trees and we should find another solution to reduce using cars and factories.

My name is Saleh and my family name is Al Jaberi . I am 19 years old. I live in BaniYas in a big house which is outside Abu Dhabi. I am a student studying now in the Higher College of Technology in the second year in the second semester and next year I will study Networking Engineering. I got the ICDL before in the college and during the semester two I got the IELTS certificate. I am single. I had a lot of friends before the college but in college I meet a lot of new friends. During the school days l liked playing football but now I only like to watch football matches and l like computers very much and every day I open my laptop for downloading movies, especially action movies and surfing in the internet and I update my memory with new programs and new information about computer parts. I like to eat very much such as Mac chicken and big tasty meals from MacDonald, Chinese rice and rice of all types. I hate romantic movies, getting up early and receiving orders. I have a car which is from the Nissan Company and its type is Altima. Before this car I had a Mercedes.

My comment for global warming is that it is the biggest problem which affects the world and human health. There are many ways to prevent this problem for example by guiding people, by publishing by T.V or by making a channel about how to protect the earth.

Summary (1) UK announces world's largest biofuel project

The government wants to fund the project of using algae instead of using fossil fuels in the cars. Mark Williamson said “the algae can deal with climate change and it could be alternative energy for planes and cars and algae can cut carbon emissions”. The UK government wants to reduce by 80% carbon emissions by 2050. The scientists hope to find a strain that can produce oil for using as car fuel. The first stage is the Carbon Trust thinks the algae biofuels could replace the fossil fuels. “The Carbon Trust will spend lot of money for making research about making algae with high oil content and which grow quickly” Trezona said. The second stage involves an increase in the algae growth operation. The Carbon Trust will build multi hectares to act as laboratories for algae. ” Algae can produce more biomass if they get 12 months of warmth”. In the past there was an effort to develop biofuels from algae by the US. But the project ended and no one succeeded with it. The Carbon Trust believes that interest in algae has been renewed. Several companies around the world are already involved in making fuels from algae and algae have the ability to remove CO2 from the air.

Main idea: The Carbon Trust tries to reduce using fossil fuels and uses algae.

Comments: In my opinion we should use the algae fuel to protect the air and our environment from pollution; we should remove the fossil fuel from our cars and planes to save money.
